   Chemical Elements 1.0 (Feb 5, 2003).
'Chemical Elements' dictionary contains descriptions, etymology, and translations (to 12 languages) for 110 chemical elements. It also contains several pictures of native elements. You can do various exercises and play word-games which will enhance the learning process. The etymology information is based on the Peter van der Krogt, Elementymology & Elements Multidict website. The native elements pictures - copyright Dr. Thomas Witzke, Institut fr Mineralogie und Lagerstttenlehre, Aachen.

   German-English Business Dictionary 1.0 (Feb 5, 2003).
'German-English Business Dictionary' is based on the Project Gutenberg version of Mr Honey's Large Business Dictionary, (C)2001, 2002 by Winfried Honig. The original PG Etext is included.

   English Hungarian Dictionary 1.0 (Feb 1, 2003).
'English Hungarian Dictionary' contains more than 26000 English words (plus a few thousands derivative forms and short phrases). It is mostly based on the 'FreeDict' source. This dictionary can serve as a starting point to enlarge and improve its contents.

   English Welsh Dictionary 1.0 (Feb 1, 2003).
'English Welsh Dictionary' contains more than 11000 English words (plus many derivative forms and short phrases). It is based on the English Welsh dictionary file copyright 1994-1996 Mark H. Nodine.

   Webster Unabridged Dictionary DH 1.2 (Feb 1, 2003).
'Webster DH' contains the second part (letters D - H) of 'The 1913 Webster Unabridged Dictionary'. If there is enough interest I can consider releasing the whole dictionary. Please let me know (jaceki@kagi.com) if you're interested. The new version contains numerous exercises and many ready-made word-groups. Please download the newest version of 'Verbs &Nouns' - 2.6.4 to use this module.

   Verbs & Nouns Lookup 1.5 (Jan 26, 2003).
The new version will search for all words included in a selected phrase. The 'window dragging' problem occurring in the Classic layer of OSX.2 is fixed. I've introduced the 'history' pop-up menu. Now you can easily write-protect the comment-box by clicking on the 'pencil' icon located in the Vocabulary window. You can use the 'hot keys' to quickly search for the words or phrases out of the external programs. The generalized searching feature allows you to find all words containing, ending or starting with a given string. You can also keep track of words which you've recently looked up. If you use the new 'V&N Lookup' together with 'Verbs&Nouns' then you can instantly display the words you've looked up in the 'Verbs&Nouns' Browse window.

   Verbs & Nouns 2.6.5 (Feb 10, 2003).
The 'window dragging' problem occurring in the Classic layer of OSX.2 is fixed. I've improved the new exercises called 'special ... ' - you can try them out by downloading for example Webster Unabridged Dictionary AB 1.2 and selecting these new exercises from the list. The new type of exercises for the 'Phrase Engine' is improved. To check it out you can download English Nouns 2.1 or English Verbs 2.1 and Verbs & Nouns Sample Phrases 1.1. Select the 'Sample Phrases' file in 'Dictionary Settings', 'Aux Files' section of 'Verbs & Nouns' and open the Exercises window. Alternatively you can download Spanish Phrases 1.0 together with Verbos en Español 1.0 or Spanish Nouns. There are also some other interface improvements and bug fixes.

'English - German Thematic Dictionary' is based on the Project Gutenberg version of three Mr Honey's English-German dictionaries, ©2001, 2002 by Winfried Honig (Mr Honey's Banking Dictionary, Mr Honey's Correspondence Dictionary, and Mr Honey's Work Study Dictionary). The original PG Etext is included.

   English Swedish Dictionary 1.0 (Dec 21, 2002).
'English Swedish Dictionary' contains more than 18000 English words. It is mostly based on the 'FreeDict' source. This dictionary can serve as a starting point to enlarge and improve its contents.

   Basic English-German Dictionary 1.0 (Dec 18, 2002).
'Basic English - German Dictionary' is based on the Project Gutenberg version of two Mr Honey's English-German dictionaries, ©2001, 2002 by Winfried Honig (Mr Honey's Beginner Dictionary and Mr Honey's First Touristic Dictionary). The original PG Etext is included.

   Who Was Who 1.0 (Dec 15, 2002).
'V&N Who Was Who' is based on the Project Gutenberg version of 'Who Was Who: 5000 B. C. to Date: Biographical Dictionary of the Famous and Those Who Wanted to Be', edited by Irwin L. Gordon. It contains about 540 humorous biographies of famous people ('5000 B. C.' to the beginning of 20-th century) . The original PG Etext is included.

'English French Dictionary' contains more than 14000 English words (plus about 4000 derivative forms and short phrases). It is mostly based on the 'FreeDict' source. This dictionary can serve as a starting point to enlarge and improve its contents.

   Devil's Dictionary 1.0 (Dec 11, 2002).
'V&N Devil's Dictionary' is based on the Project Gutenberg version of 'The Devil's Dictionary', by Ambrose Bierce (1906). The original PG Etext is included.

'English Portuguese Dictionary' contains more than 9000 English words. It is mostly based on the 'FreeDict' source. This dictionary can serve as a starting point to enlarge and improve its contents.

   Foolish Dictionary 1.0 (Nov 21, 2002).
'V&N Foolish Dictionary' is based on the Project Gutenberg version of 'The Foolish Dictionary', by Gideon Wurdz (1899). The original PG Etext is included.

   English-German Business Dictionary 1.0 (Nov 18, 2002).
'English-German Business Dictionary' is based on the Project Gutenberg version of Mr Honey's Large Business Dictionary (English-German), (C)2001, 2002 by Winfried Honig . The original PG Etext is included.

   Word List Maker 2.2.3 (Nov 15, 2002).
There are a few improvements for the internal functions and the memory management. I've also added the 'find-replace' engine to preprocess the input text-files.

   Verbs & Nouns Spanish Phrases 1.0 (Nov 15, 2002)
It is a sample collection of sentences for use with Spanish Inflection dictionaries. This package is an easy way to try out the 'Phrase Engine' feature in Verbs & Nouns. You can extend this module by adding more text-files to it.

   Verbos en Español 1.0 (Nov 9, 2002), by Dennis Sayers.
This dictionary contains 766 Spanish verbs, with all major regular and irregular verb conjugations in 13 tenses and moods. Conjugations are in Latin American Spanish, so that speakers of continental Spanish will need to add the vosotros forms.

   Jargon Dictionary 1.0 (Nov 8, 2002)
'Jargon Dictionary' contains the lexicon part of 'The New Hacker's Dictionary' (version 4.3.3, Sep. 2002) a comprehensive compendium of hacker slang illuminating many aspects of hackish tradition, folklore, and humor. The original source is available from tuxedo.org.

   Moby Thesaurus ABC 1.0 (Nov 5, 2002)
'Moby Thesaurus ABC' contains the first part (letters A, B and C) of 'Moby Thesaurus II by Grady Ward'. If there is enough interest I can consider releasing the whole thesaurus. Please let me know (jaceki@kagi.com) if you're interested. The new type of exercises in 'Verbs &Nouns 2.5.9' called 'special quiz > related terms' allow using 'Moby Thesaurus' contents for practicing understanding of English words. Please download the newest version of 'Verbs &Nouns' - 2.5.9 to use this module (older versions of 'Verbs &Nouns' do not support the 'special' exercises).

   Japanese EDICT V&N Port 1.2 (Apr 8, 2002).
Japanese EDICT is a port of the Jim Breen's EDICT project to the 'Verbs & Nouns' format. It contains about 57,000 Japanese words. The original conversion has been prepared by Michael Fahey in 1999. I've recently converted the Michael Fahey's port to take advantage of the new features in 'Verbs & Nouns'.

   Verbs & Nouns Sample Phrases 1.1 (Mar 8, 2002)
It is a sample collection of sentences for use with English Inflection dictionaries (created with the 'Verbs & Nouns' language-learning program). This package is an easy way to try out the 'Phrase Engine' feature in 'Verbs & Nouns'. You can extend this module by adding more text-files to it.

   Finnisch Inflection Dictionaries 1.3 (Jan 4, 2002) by Alexander Esser.
The dictionaries contain more than 2200 basic words (verbs, nouns, and adjectives) and nearly 300 000 derived (inflected) words. More dictionaries are in preparation. The dictionaries translate from Finnish to German, but non-German speakers might still find them useful for learning derived words.

   Dictionary of Computing 1.1 (Dec 6, 2001).
The source for this dictionary comes from the Free On-line Dictionary of Computing by Denis Howe and has been converted to the format suitable for use with 'Verbs & Nouns' . FOLDOC is a searchable dictionary of acronyms, jargon, programming languages, tools, architecture, operating systems, networking, theory, conventions, standards, mathematics, telecoms, electronics, institutions, companies, projects, products, history, in fact anything to do with computing. This dictionary is Copyright 1993 by Denis Howe. The dictionary module itself is free.

    English Adjectives 2.1 , by A. Forbes & J. Iwanski.
This module helps Macintosh users to study and practise the comparison, adverb, and '-ish' forms of English adjectives. It is useful to native English speakers and to students learning English as a foreign language. It contains 5400 English adjectives.

   English Nouns 2.1 , by A. Forbes & J. Iwanski.
This module helps Macintosh users to study and practice the different ways of forming the plural of English nouns. People sometimes think that to form an English plural you just add 's'. This module may hold some surprises. It contains 37000 English nouns, for example city/cities, box/boxes, leaf/leaves, and many less-common types. If your native language is German then additionally you can download the German Translations module to add German translations to 'English Nouns'.

    English Verbs 2.1 , by A. Forbes & J. Iwanski.
This module helps Macintosh users to study and practise the inflection of English verbs. It is useful to native English speakers and to students learning English as a foreign language. It contains 8600 English verbs.
